"Be careful and use your common sense (= pay attention and think)."

GOOD ADVICE

  1. I eat healthy food. (=if I eat poorly, I get sick = expense + can't study).
  2. I set aside money for emergencies as soon as I receive my sponsorship.
  3. I'm wary of scams. (=people who force me to spend on things that don't exist, or are of poor quality...)
  4. I write down why I want to save and keep that list with my money.
  5. I write a shopping list before I go to the market.
  6. I'm looking... but I don't buy (= I remember why I'm saving).
  7. I'm thinking carefully about why I am buying a certain item.
  8. I don't leave my money lying around.
  9. When I see something, I like, I think about what I could do with the same amount of money.
  10. It's more important to have a good time with your friends than to have the same things as them.

BAD ADVICE

  1. I take all my money with me when I go to the market (=I risk losing everything).
  2. I buy every time I see a promotion!
  3. If I see money lying around, I keep it (=theft; if it's money in the dormitory, ask others or give it to the educator).
  4. As soon as I get my sponsorship, I go to the market. (=overspending)
  5. There's no need to plan... We'll see tomorrow! (foresee = avoid problems). I get my sponsorship, I spend and if there is money left, I save it. (No, there will never be any left = earn – save = what's left to spend).
  6. I like to buy what my friends have. (Things don't make good friends).
  7. if I don't have enough money, I borrow money from friends or family. (= they won't have enough money anymore and will also have to borrow).
  8. When I have nothing to do, I go to the market.
  9. I ask for the price after I decide to buy
