Goal:

Become aware of the influence of sounds on our way of giving or receiving a message

Steps

Launch the story that will serve as a work support: 3 or 4 short sentences maximum.

For example, tell the story of a young person who leaves on a motorbike to go to school on a rainy day. He ran a red light and the police chased him to pay a fine. Arrived in front of the school, the police let the youngster go.

  • Tell the story without emphasis. Ask: "How can we improve the communication of this story?"
  • Tell the story a second time with 2 or 3 young people who act it out (depending on the number of characters in your story)
  • Ask again: "How can we improve the communication of this story?" : your ? sound effects? visual aids? ...

There are many ways to amplify communication so that it is more effective. Choose one for this activity: sound effects.

  • Divide the kids into groups of 3 or 4.
  • Each team leaves to prepare the story by adding sound effects (10-15 mins)
  • The different teams then present their skits to the assembled group.
  • If there is time, mix the sound tools of the different teams to create a final skit, observed by most of the group.

Ideas:

  • pouring grains of rice on an umbrella gives the impression of hearing the rain fall;
  • clap two emptied coconut shells: these are horse steps;
  • hit a sheet of metal for the sound of thunder;
  • two bags of cornstarch to simulate footsteps in the snow, but also falls;
  • waving a handkerchief held by two corners: birds flying away;
  • … without forgetting all the sounds that can be produced with the mouth and hands!

CONCRETELY :

  • In your daily life, what are the sounds that you hear that have a particular meaning, that want to alert you to something?

A policeman's whistle, fire alarm, ringing bell, alarm clock, telephone ringing, ...

FOR FURTHER :

  • Apart from sounds, what other means are used to communicate?

#non-verbal communication

  • Daily communication: Non-verbal communication is one of the big issues in communication. We use it all day, without paying attention to it: gestures, body language, facial reactions, symbols, advertisements.
  • Spot the signs: We must train ourselves to also use this non-verbal mode of communication to better communicate around us. It is necessary to identify these influences of non-verbal communication, in particular those which pass through advertising.

For example, is it really essential to buy a new motorbike, because I have seen several advertisements (on billboards, on television, on social networks, ...) which praise the merits of a new brand of motorcycle?

We can thus discern what was really our personal idea or what is an idea received from advertising.

Good advice: before making important choices, seek advice from someone wise in whom you trust
