Activity details

Duration: 25 minutes

Participants: 2 - 24 people

Cost: $ 0

Age range: 7-25 years old

Equipments

  • a pen

...

Goal:

Develop the imagination

Steps

Place the young people in a standing circle.

Place a pen in the middle of the circle.

Young people should be told that "This pen is NOT a pen"

  • A first young person must then go and retrieve the pen, take it and stage an action with this pen by replacing it in his imagination with another object.
  • The other players must guess what this "imaginary" object chosen by their classmate is.

Young people need to be creative, the pen can be ANYTHING but a pen.

EXAMPLES:

  1. I chose that this pen is for me, a toothbrush. So I walk towards the pen, I mime to wash my face then I take the pen that I use as a toothbrush, and I recap the tube of toothpaste etc.
  2. I chose that this pen is for me, a guitar. I walk towards the pen, and I mime a guitarist with the pencil.

Young people must be encouraged to take their time, to also mimic the context, the before and after of the action.

The activity ends when all the young people have passed.

  • They must not speak
  • They can use other players to mimic the action (go give someone a flower, or go stab someone)
  • The choice of mime must be consistent with the shape of the pen.

It is possible to do 1 round in mime without sound effects, followed by 1 round in mime with sound effects.

CONCRETELY :

  • What was the most difficult for you in this game?

find an idea of mime, expose oneself in front of others, guess what the mimed objects were, ...

FOR FURTHER :

  • In which situation(s) do you use your body to convey a message?

#body expression #imagination

  • Explain to young people that you can use your body to express an idea and send a message.
  • Explain to young people the importance of making precise gestures and taking their time to get a message across the first time.
  • The mimes they did, if done well, can be understood by anyone who doesn't speak their language.
  • Congratulate them for their imagination, and show them that it is limitless!
