Our lives are made up of a multitude of choices. How do we make the right one? 

We are faced with uncertainty. To face up to it, and continue to take action, we need hope. Hope gives us the confidence to act. It is based on uncertainty, on not knowing what the future holds. 

Hope goes hand in hand with fear, the fear of sadness. Hope is a desire characterised by three things: 

- The desire for what I lack, without enjoying it because we don't possess it

- The desire for what we don't know, without knowing, because we don't know whether the desire will be satisfied.
