Goal:

Being aware of the impact of my messages on others, online or close to me.

Steps

Divide the youngsters into two groups. One group will have to communicate by telephone, the other group will have to communicate face to face. Two to three young people will have roles to play and the others will be observers who will have to report according to a sheet:

  • how did the young person introduce his ad?
  • how did he announce? would you have liked to be told like that?
  • how did he conclude?

ROLEPLAY

Both groups will have the same message to convey, the same characters to play. The only difference is the means of communication.

The message must be something difficult to say, something delicate.

  • ex: “a mother must announce to her son that his beloved grandmother is dead. »
  • ex: "a child must tell his parents that he does not want to study that the parents would like him to do"

Explanations

-take the time to explain each person's role

-take the actors aside and explain to each of them what they will have to embody

-present the observers sheet to the rest of the group

Youth exercise

-Analysis: ten minutes for observers to analyze

-Restitution by group

Restitution in large group and explanation given by the facilitator

CONCRETELY :

On the phone:

  • how did the young person introduce his ad?
  • how did he announce?
  • how did he conclude?

Face to face:

  • how did the young person introduce his ad?
  • how did he announce?
  • how did he conclude?

take tweezers, very direct tone, emotions, empathy, embarrassment, ...

FOR FURTHER :

How could this be interpreted?

  • By phone:
  • Face to face:

In the place of the mother, in what form would you have liked to be warned?

#communication

Transmit with delicacy: The more a message to be transmitted calls upon emotion, interpretation, the subjective, the seriousness, the more it is necessary to seek an oral or face-to-face mode of communication. Because several factors come into play:

  • time: when you have important news to share with the other, it takes time, before or after, to share with him his emotion, his reaction.
  • space: the closer we are physically to the person, the more we are able to understand and share what they feel with our senses, with our heart and our intelligence.

Communicate well, what tools? : SMS or chat should be limited to factual elements (Can you buy 1 kg of rice?), playful, or kind words (thanks, compliments, etc.). The other written means (email, letter, etc.) make it possible to summarize a reflection which must have already been discussed orally.

For example, it is important not to send an e-mail to reproach. Avoid written reproaches which can leave lasting traces because you do not control the dispositions of the person when they read them.

Good advice: Before announcing difficult news to someone, always ask yourself "How would I have liked to be told?"
