Steps

The staging of this debate is that of a trial in court, do not hesitate to add decorations and costumes to put the participants in the right mood.

The host of the game has 2 teams lined up in front of him. The 2 teams are lined up facing each other.

1) Theme of the Debate: Propose a closed question (answer with yes or no only)

- Team A: Prosecutors: Answer = Yes

- Team B: Lawyers: Answer = No

 Sample questions:

-PHILOSOPHICAL (with prior preparation): Is the cat braver than the man? / Is man free? Is pleasure contrary to happiness? ...

-Simple (without prior preparation): Should transport be modernized? For or against the war on drugs? Are you more "imaginative or logical"?

2) Prepare arguments and objections: 30 minutes

- Each team finds an argument and an objection to opposing the other team:

- 5 arguments + 5 objections in total for each team.

- These teams are guided by a facilitator who has prepared the topic beforehand. It is necessary to prepare small "sub-questions" to guide the participants if they do not find arguments to formulate.

3) Test: 1 hour

- One member of team A (A1) will come to present his argument to the jury and team B (max. 1mn30).

- A member of team B (B1) objects without moving from his seat (max. 1mn30). A1 or a member of team A will answer B1's objection and have a short debate (max 1mn30).

- A2 and B2 then debate in the same way: this time it is Team B that proposes its argument and Team A that objects.

- etc. etc.

- The last member (A6) should summarize the 3 arguments of his team.

- The last member (B6) should summarize the 3 arguments of his team.

4) Deliberation: 10mn

- The jury is made up of the moderator and the 2 other participants from the audience.

- Points are awarded to those who defend their point of view well (construction, relevance).

- In the end game, one side wins.

CONCRETELY

Did I feel comfortable in this exercise? Did I listen carefully to what my team mates had to say? Was what I said clear and convincing?

#improving #public speaking

Working on the set themes will enable me to discern, defend my ideas from a pre-determined angle and organise my ideas.

In life, I sometimes have to defend my ideas, organise them, prioritise, listen to others, work in a team, ask myself questions I wouldn't have asked myself and feed my arguments with opposing thoughts.

I need to learn how to communicate with others, capture attention, coordinate and analyse my ideas, structure my narrative and pay attention to my body stature, because my body and my words reflect an image to the audience I'm addressing. I also have to think before I speak and learn to manage my stress and emotions.

This also highlights the virtue of Justice. Speaking in public teaches me to defend my ideas, to be faithful to the strategy established as a team, but it also allows me to question the integrity of what I say. Integrity means acting with honesty and respect, being true to my values and making the right decisions even when no one is looking.

Language: Local

Make sure that both sides can defend their position: the subject must also be established according to this criterion.

Excellent participation of the players in general: debating in their language, they dare to express their point of view with a lot of strength and gestures!
