3. The untouchable wire

0 / 5.0

Hold two pétanque balls or heavy objects at the end of your outstretched arm above the wire, without touching it, for as long as possible

Activity details

Duration: 15 minutes

Participants: 2 - 24 people

Cost: $ 0

Age range: 7-25 years old

Equipments

  • 2-4 metal bocce balls or water bottles
  • a string stretched between two stakes

...

Goal:

Work on your will

...

What we like:

  • Little preparation
  • Possibility of forming teams
  • Team cohesion
  • Great atmosphere
...

Warning:

  • Petanque balls have been replaced by 1L water bottles
  • We had inserted this game to emphasize team cohesion
  • We made the game in the form of duels, between boys or between girls
  • For 20-year-old students, just 1 petanque ball is not enough, otherwise the game lasts too long.

Steps

  • Two people face to face sitting on the ground.
  • Between them, a string stretched between two stakes (or held by another support), 15cm from the ground.
  • Everyone holds 2 petanque balls in their hand and must stretch their arm towards the other player, above the string (without touching it). If you don't have bocce balls, find two other items of equivalent weight and heavy enough (one for each player)

The aim is to hold the ball in your hand for as long as possible without lowering your arm !

Caution : The arm should remain straight, with the hand above the string. After a minute, the weight starts to be felt and the arms start to tremble.

The first to touch the string loses.

Inspired by a Fort Boyard challenge, this game is easy to set up.

Can be adapted:

- For the strongest players: two pétanque balls in one hand

- For younger players: one pétanque ball in each hand

The petanque balls can be replaced by bottles filled with pebbles or any other heavy container.

CONCRETELY :

What encouraged you to keep your arm straight as the fatigue got harder and harder?

Sample answers : encouragement from the public, the desire to win, the desire to go all the way,...

FOR FURTHER :

  • In life, is it always the strongest who wins?

#power and courage

Virtue of courage: One of the 4 fundamental virtues is courage. It includes the notion of force, but is not limited to force. True courage is the sequence of audacity (I dare to embark on an adventure) and perseverance (and I go to the end of my adventure despite the obstacles I may encounter).

Courage = audacity + perseverance

Audacity + perseverance: Thus, in the short term, the strongest can win, if he has more audacity, more self-confidence. But we must not forget perseverance: sometimes the weakest have a strong will within them that allows them to go all the way. They can go as far as those who are strong, or even further, as evidenced by the fable The Hare and the Tortoise (to read again here)

Good advice: Go beyond yourself!
