Steps

Explain to young people that they will have to think about the consequences of their actions. It will help to better understand what the word "responsibility" means.

Global process: a person starts with the question "What if" and points to another person in the circle who will have to answer him.

In English, use either of the expressions "What happens if..." or "If only you..."

To start the discussion, the facilitator chooses a theme, for example that of the hearth/house, and asks a first question:

  • Host pointing at player B: What if we do not do cleaning in this house? What happens if you don't clean our roommate?
  • Player B: The house will be messy and no one wants to stay. The house will be dirty and no one will want to stay there
  • So on, player B asks another house-themed question and points to player C.
  • Player B: What if you don't help for cooking? What if no one helps with the cooking?
  • Player C: Everybody will be hungry and angry. Everyone will be hungry and we will end up being angry.
  • Etc.. with all the players present if possible
  • During this time, the animator writes down the key words, to make the young people see that the consequence of a "no" action has a bad impact every time:
  • no cleaning --> mess and bad atmosphere. No cleaning --> disorder and bad atmosphere
  • not on time --> everybody angry or tired. Late in the kitchen --> hunger and anger
  • ...

The facilitator can also choose to ask a positive question, and will thus show that a "good" action will have positive consequences.

  • good hygiene --> good health. If only you had cleaned the kitchen well when it was your turn, we would be healthier.
  • decoration in my house --> happiness, peace. If only you had decorated the house, we would be happy and at peace.
  • helping friends at home --> ... If only you helped your roommates more at home, ...

Animation help - synthesis:

On a sheet, the facilitator notes the "virtuous circles", which correspond to the answers of "If only you...". On another sheet, the facilitator notes the "vicious circles", which correspond to the answers to 'What happens if...'

CONCRETELY :

  • What are the characteristics of a responsible person?

Examples: faithful (duration), honest (spirit), reliable (skills), reasonable, attentive, invested, aware

  • What are the different places where I can be responsible?

Examples: with respect to me, my friend, my family, my home, my class, my society, my village, my community, my environment, my religion, etc.

FOR FURTHER :

  • What does "responsibility" mean?

If there is time: ROLE PLAY

  • Form 3 groups
  • Each group creates a skit on responsibility for 5 minutes
  • Each group presents it to the others gathered, who will have to point out responsible and irresponsible behavior

#responsibility #reflection

  • Butterfly Effect: None of my actions or inactions remain without effect on my surroundings, even what apparently doesn't matter much, like smiling or not smiling... .https ://www.caminteresse.fr/environnement/quest-ce-que-leffet-papillon-1163580/ Each of our actions has an impact on our lives and on the lives of those around us.
  • Assume: Responsibility consists in being able to answer for one's actions, to assume the consequences.

I rejoice in what I have done right, I regret and I seek to repair what I have done wrong...

  • Acting for the good: Being responsible requires that I want what I do, that I think about what I do, that I am aware of it. A fully responsible man wills and thinks about what he does for the good.

Good advice: Before acting, ask yourself these 3 questions: is it good? TRUE ? useful ?

The animator can link different "vicious circle" or "virtuous circle" themes. For example school/university, "myself", "my environment", "my religion", or any other theme.

Be careful though as this may confuse the game. It is better to choose a topic and keep it for a full round, or even two rounds, so that the young people understand the process well, before possibly choosing another topic for the questions.
