– Draw a square with a side of 14 cm. Mark points at 3cm, 5cm, 7cm, 9cm and 11cm on each side.
– Plant the nails where you marked the points.
– Cut the clothes into long strips.
– Attach a strip of fabric to a corner nail, then pass the strip of fabric back and forth from one nail to the one opposite it. This creates a 1st mesh
- Then hang a 2nd strip of fabric on a corner nail (on one of the two sides still free) and pass the strip of fabric over then under the 1st strip of fabric, until the nail is finding opposite and so on back and forth, until the last nail.
– Finally, cast off the stitches and tighten them a little. At the end, there will be a stitch left which will be used to hang the tawashi on a nail (where it can drain)
Young people, both big and small, participated. In some homes they use it to wash the dishes and in others to wipe the whiteboard.

Making a tawashi , an ecological and durable household accessory, requires few materials and promotes the reuse of textiles. This activity promotes an eco-responsible approach by encouraging waste reduction and responsible consumption. By using used clothing to create tawashi , we extend the life of textiles and thus reduce the demand for new raw materials. By carrying out this manufacturing process in an artisanal way, we also develop our creativity and manual skills. More broadly, this activity reflects a growing awareness of the importance of preserving our environment by adopting more sustainable and planet-friendly consumption practices. By raising awareness of the impact of our actions on the environment, making tawashis becomes a concrete way to contribute to the preservation of natural resources and the reduction of waste. By involving individuals in initiatives such as tawashi making , we promote behavioral change towards more sustainable and environmentally friendly lifestyles.
Good advice: The planet does not belong to us, but its future is in our hands
